Two WWDC predictions

Putting two predictions on the record before the keynote: MCP on Apple devices and real models on-device.

WWDC keynote later today. Two predictions I'm putting on the record before Tim walks out.

1: MCP becomes a first class citizen on iOS and macOS. Siri stops being a parlour trick and starts doing whatever app developers expose to it. "Hey Siri, order me a DoorDash." "Hey Siri, what's the surf conditions tomorrow?" "Hey Siri, book me a flight on United." App's become a set of tools, and Siri becomes the agent that calls and orchestrates them.

2: Real inference models running on the device in your pocket. Not a round trip to someone's data centre. On Apple silicon, local, private, fast. If they pull it off they could flip the whole hyperscale inference economics on its head, and the moat everyone assumed lived in the cloud moves into your hand.

The consensus says the opposite on that second one, more reliance on Google's cloud models, not less. Which is exactly why I think it's a fun bet. At some point Apple needs another iphone "we made a phone with no buttons" moment.

What do you think Apple will announce today?
